Mark Sullivan

Mark Sullivan is coming back to teach and play with us…online!!! When we started our Music Camp, Mark was the first ever guest instructor that we invited to join us. He is not only an exceptionally talented musician, but “a force in the world!” says Grammy nominated fiddler, Liz Carroll.  Among his many awards, Mark Sullivan is a 3-time Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Champion and is widely regarded as one of the finest fiddlers in North America today.  He is in demand as a spirited performer and continues to collaborate with many of the finest names in traditional music today.

Mark holds his Masters in the Science of Education and is a regular instructor at Music Camps throughout the country.  As an Educator, he is highly committed to educating through collaboration and student empowerment.  He has a sincere interest in Leadership, the Professional Development of Teachers, and Motivation. Master Canadian Fiddle Instructor, Gordon Stobbe, says, “(Mark) elevates (his students) with example, he inspires them to risk and succeed and, through his patient leadership, gets his students to believe in themselves.”

In addition to Mark’s passion for education, he has also performed alongside some of the finest names in his field; including The Chieftains, a PBS-TV feature with John McDermott, Natalie MacMaster, the StepCrew, Liz Carroll, and Calvin Vollrath.  Mark has 6 recordings to his credit and he has appeared on numerous compilations as an instrumentalist, arranger, and producer. His recording, The Gathering Room, is a compilation of original music which showcases his unique Canadian Fiddle style. Mark grew up playing for square dances, backing up singers, and learning his craft from dance fiddlers in and around Bowmanville Ontario.  He is an old time fiddler at heart, though fully immersed in so many other styles.  He is constantly promoting local fiddle music around the country and is committed to preserving the Canadian Fiddle Tradition.  We are so happy that he’ll be with us again this year and as always, can’t wait to hear and watch him play!!
