We couldn’t be more excited to tell you that Louis Schryer will be teaching online with us this year!
Louis was born and raised in Sault St. Marie, Ontario and has been playing the fiddle since the age of eight. As one of the Schryer’s – renowned throughout Canada and beyond for their distinctive music and playing, he has received training in both the classical and traditional styles of music. In 1994, Louis earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Ottawa. Since then, he has continued to share his musical gifts as a performer, recording artist, composer, and teacher. For over 25 years, he has been honing and celebrating his craft.
Louis is a fiddler extraordinaire whose passion for music pours out every time he plays. He is the only ‘8 time Canadian Fiddle Champion’ and the only one to hold the title of ‘4 time Grand Masters Fiddle Champion’. His ability to play various styles (Classical, Old Time, Quebecois, Swing Jazz) has allowed him to cross genres and play with many artists alike. He has been featured on the CDs of many top country recording artists as well as four recordings of his own. In addition to being a recording artist, Louis also writes and arranges. In 2015, he was the featured guest of the PSO in Pembroke, Ontario. The music of this performance included: André Gagnon’s Petit Concerto pour Jean Carignan, Bovaglie’s Plaid, Pastiche for Anne, Mark O’Connor’s virtuosic Strings and Threads, Slockit Light, and rousing compositions: American Rhapsody and the Lord of the Dance.
