We are very excited to be welcoming Don Sills back to Camp this year! Don made his first trip to Lakefield in 2012 and shared his expertise in vocal technique and choral singing. His classes were a gift to every who attended; his ability to inspire, educate, and develop aspiring vocalists left a lasting impression on us all. It’s no surprise that when we decided to start a full stream vocal program at Camp, Don was the first person we thought of. Last year we launched that program with Don and Denise (Leahy) Flack at the helm. Together, they will lead the vocal stream again this year and teach vocal technique, choral singing, and the mechanics of voice training.
As anyone who has worked with Don knows, he doesn’t just teach, but inspires, draws out, and strengthens those who are under his care and direction. He is a professionally trained tenor singer and graduate of the Don Wright Faculty of Music and the Faculty of Education at the University of Western Ontario. Currently, he is the Vocal Department Director of the award-winning vocal and choral music program at Catholic Central High School in London, Ontario. For the last 19 years, he has been a proud member of the Amabile Choral Organization. He conducts both the Amabile Treble Concert Choir (TCC) and the Amabile Young Mens Ensemble (YM). He has led and taken numerous choirs to great heights winning awards, distinctions, and a reputation that has many people lining up to work with him and take his classes. We ourselves are looking forward to a collaboration with Don and his choirs this Spring. We will be joining him and the Amabile Choirs of London on stage for a special performance on May 28, 2016. Soon after, Don will join us in Lakefield at Camp to deliver yet another week of vocal classes and training. For all of the people who sign up for this program at Camp, we’re very happy for you as we already know the amazing and lasting experience you’re going to have. Yes, Don Sills is coming back to Camp and we can’t wait for you all to meet and work with him!
