Erin Leahy

Composing | Fiddle | Piano

LEAHY is an award-winning Canadian Celtic music group known for their unique blend of traditional and contemporary music genres. The band is comprised of siblings from the 11 member Leahy family. Erin is number 10 in the line-up and is the primary piano player for the group. Known for proficiency on multiple instruments, and her creativity as a composer, and arranger, she has earned a reputation for her exceptional talent and versatility.  She is a powerhouse on the piano with a foundation in traditional, Celtic, ragtime, and classical music.  Erin also plays violin with the same command, using its voice to illuminate her compositions and arrangements.  Drawing from her roots, Erin makes music which incorporates contemporary influences resulting in a seamless fusion of musical styles.  Her sound is original and highlights the intimate relationship between the piano and violin.

For Erin, music is a powerful point of connection with other people, and as a way of celebrating life with others. Erin describes musical development as a means to personal growth; a way of discovering what seems like infinite possibility, and to continually strive to improve. Erin draws inspiration from other people, beauty, nature and creation. As is evident in her solo album All In Stride, Erin loves to discover new sounds and new ways of approaching what is musically familiar. She enjoys the whole process of writing or arranging, recording, and finally performing pieces of music.

All of the Leahys continue to be immersed in music in a variety of ways; nurturing their own children, and reaching out in their respective communities, collaborating, teaching, writing, producing and performing. For the Leahys, Camp is one of the most rewarding experiences of their musical career. “It is a small way for us to give back to the communities and culture that afforded us a life of music in the arts. Working with fellow musicians and aspiring artists is a gift beyond words. The participants who attend the Camp feel like extended family to us; we see many of them return each year which means we see them develop and grow. What a privilege! Every Music Camp is a reunion! We can so easily identify with them and their musical experiences. It’s a journey we know well and enjoy sharing and navigating with others”.
